Design Season 2025
The Design 2025 programme at LCB Depot offered a rich and immersive month of design-centred happenings framed around the unifying theme of “Home”.
The programme officially launched on 29 September 2025 with a free-entry exhibition running on weekdays from 11 am–5 pm until 24 October.
A rich and immersive month of design-centred happenings
Within the gallery, architecture, graphic, product, digital and interactive design merged to offer fresh perspectives on what ‘home’ can mean — whether that be familiar, communal, speculative or pioneering.
Highlights included a vibrant launch evening on the 26th of September (5–10 pm) featuring VR architecture from Maber and original poetry from Leicester-based poet Mr Shay exploring the theme of home; that evening dovetailed with the “Last Friday” street-food, music and comedy tradition in the Cultural Quarter.
Elsewhere across the month attendees joined events such as a business breakfast with designer Simran Kotecha uncovering how to build a design business from the ground up, a family creative-day building rockets and spaces with the National Space Centre, and textile industry networking for the local fashion and apparel ecosystem.
The season gave locally-rooted as well as national and international designers the opportunity to participate via an open call, exhibit work, host workshops, and engage directly with Leicester’s creative community. With multiple engagement formats, from exhibition to talks to family workshops, Design 2025 was both a showcase and a participative platform, inviting the city’s creative sector and wider public to think about design’s role in shaping the places we call home.
